The Wolf Man (Universal, 1941). Vintage TYPE I Studio photo (8" X 10").
"Even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms, and the autumn moon is bright." This was the last of the great Universal horror monsters to be introduced in the decade of the forties, and it is still one of the most atmospheric of that studio's output, making Lon Chaney Jr. a star. The great Jack Pierce makeup and wonderful supporting cast makes this a true classic.
Lon Chaney, Jr. was the star of what has become one of Universal Studios' greatest horror films. By the time this film was released at the beginning of WWII, the studio was trying to bring life back to the franchise that kept them solvent through the Depression: the monster movie. But they needed a new character. They made a werewolf film some five years prior in "Werewolf of London," but now revisited that character with a more horrific story.
Note: Someone wrote on the back in pencil "Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man". However, this is from the original 1941 "The Wolf Man", confirmed by the studio idenification number in lower right and the scene which is from the "Wolf Man", Not from "Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man".
Note: Cvtreasures stamp NOT on original
