King Kong, 1933
Original Vintage Lobby Card Movie Poster (11x14")

Stunning King Kong vintage lobby card!    Here is a most spectacular Rare find!  A 1938 First re-release of this giant ape classic.

Along with Dracula and Frankenstein,  King Kong will forever be remembered as the first three horror film masterpieces all being released in the early 1930s.  And because of their extraordinary appeal,  each had multiple theatrical re-releases.  King Kong had a total of Six releases, one original release in 1933 and five re-releases in 1938, 1942, 1946, 1952, 1956.    This gorgeous lobby card we are offering is the first theatrical re-releases.

King Kong was one of the first (if not THE first) movie poster to sell or over $100,000!

Note:  You seasoned collectors already know that the iconic border art on the right side panel with a “screaming Kong” clenching Fay Wray and an airplane was only used for the original 1933 release and the 1938 First re-release. The main difference is the 1938 release added the three main characters underneath the film’s title.  After 1938 the border art was changed.     Also the 1933 and 1938 lobby cards has the same striking orange color.   Hence the 1938 release looks much like the 1933 release lobby cards.   These King Kong lobby cards are some of the most coveted in the high end movie collecting genre.

Condition: Amazing Excellent Plus UN-Restored Condition.  With just the slightest corner bumps,  the incredible bright colors and Original preserved condition for this 85+ Year old Gem is Astonishing!

As thrilling and entertaining today as it was upon its release in Depression Era 1933, King Kong remains a landmark in horror film making history. Torn from his jungle homeland and brought to America by showman Carl Denham (Robert Armstrong), Kong's unrequited love for the beautiful Ann Darrow (Fay Wray) would eventually prove his undoing. Paper from this legendary film is highly prized, and these superb lobby cards from its second release are no exception. One card features a raging "The Eighth Wonder of the World" appearing at the gates of the jungle and the other captures Armstrong, Cabot, Wray and their crew members attempting to communicate with the natives of Skull Island in one of the early scenes.

It can only be called pure magic -- special effects master Willis O'Brien and his team creating Kong, a beast that incredulously evokes both extreme terror and intense sympathy. Add the beauty of Fay Wray, the flair of Robert Armstrong, and the valor of Bruce Cabot, and you have a film of epic distinction. This legendary work has stood the test of time for more than 75 years, making its collectibles highly coveted, this lobby card from its first reissue being no exception.
