A Vintage 1940 Original Photograph issued by the Associated Press depicting Jimmie Foxx of the Boston Red Sox taking a break from golf as he prepares his weapon of his trade - his Louisville Slugger bat by "honing" it with a glass soda pop bottle. This long lost art was common practice back in the day when players would hardened the wood of their bat by rubbing the surface with deer bones and beer bottles to prevent splits and breakage. Original press stamp and caption with FEB 20 1940 stamp date are on the reverse of this terrific photo !
