Since the 1940s, Wayne had wished to make a film version depicting the events in which a band of Independent Texan revolutionaries stood up against the entire Mexican army. It wasn't until the 1960s that the legendary actor was given the opportunity. Starring alongside Wayne are Richard Widmark, Laurence Harvey, Frankie Avalon, and Chill Wills, accompanied by a rousing score by Dimitri Tiomkin.
